Peter Higgs Biography

Peter is a chartered professional engineer and Fellow of the Institute of Professional Engineers of New Zealand (IPENZ). Peter is presently employed by Gisborne District Council as the Deputy Chief Executive and Group Manager of Engineering and Works He is the Vice President of IPWEA-NZ (Institute of Public Works Engineering, Australasia) - formerly INGENIUM, and a director of NAMS (National Asset Management Support) Group Ltd, which develops guidelines for the management of public infrastructure.
He has been the manager of a private environmental contracting business as well working for many years in the public sector. He has worked on international projects in the Philippines and Indonesia. Peter has been involved in a number of government and inter-agency working parties on environmental and infrastructure matters. He has experience in environmental and civil engineering including asset management with a particular focus on sustainable development.
Peter has strong general management and project management skills together with business and financial skills that he brings to the organisation. He also has an in depth knowledge of local government processes and requirements. Peter is also responsible for the implementation of project management methodologies across the organisation.
